Opening a door that will not open
There is a correct way in, and it does not involve prying anything. We open the door without damaging trim, paint or the mechanism, which is the point at which a lot of this work goes wrong elsewhere.

Doors, latches and hardware · Carrollton, Texas
There is a correct fix, and it is not the one that fails again.
Latch actuator failures, door locks, hinges and alignment, repaired with the updated parts so the same door does not strand you twice.
The door that will not open
A door that will not open from the outside is one of the most common faults we see, and it is not a sign that anything has been abused. The actuator is a known weak point across most of the range.
There is an updated design. A car still carrying the original actuator is, in practical terms, waiting its turn, and fitting the same original part again is a repair with a known future.
The related fault is electrical: a shorted door-lock sensor will draw current overnight and flatten the battery on a car that is sitting. The two complaints arrive separately and share a cause more often than owners expect.
The work
Getting into a door that will not open is its own skill, and doing it without marking the car is most of the reason to bring it to a specialist.
There is a correct way in, and it does not involve prying anything. We open the door without damaging trim, paint or the mechanism, which is the point at which a lot of this work goes wrong elsewhere.
The original actuator is replaced with the updated design rather than a like-for-like part, and the opposite door is checked while we are in there, because the second one rarely waits long after the first.
Door-lock sensors are tested and, where a short is found, the current draw is measured before and after the repair so you can see the drain has actually gone.
Dihedral doors are heavy and they need to be set correctly.
Fitment

Dihedral actuation and latch operation checked through full cycles, with the updated latch design fitted where originals remain.

Front clip, shut lines and fasteners checked for alignment and correct hardware after any front-end work.

Every latch, seal and cable verified at handover, photographed against the job record before the car leaves.
How the job runs
The door is opened without damaging trim, paint or mechanism.
Actuator, sensor and wiring tested, with current draw measured where relevant.
Updated actuator fitted, opposite door checked, hardware set correctly.
Alignment, seal and lock cycling checked, and the repair recorded to your VIN.
A single latch actuator is usually a one-day job once the part is in hand.

Doors and latches
Every panel opens and closes exactly as it should.
Where we work
The work is done here, and we will collect the car if the door situation makes driving it awkward.
If a door will not open at all, call before trying anything. The damage from a forced entry costs more than the actuator by a wide margin.
If one original actuator has failed, the other is the same age. Owners routinely do both in one visit and stop thinking about it.
Why March Motorsports
Two reasons. The first is access: a door that will not open has to be opened without marking anything, and a shop learning that on your car is an expensive lesson.
The second is the part. Fitting the original design again means doing it again, which is why we fit the updated one and check the other side.
The correct access method, not improvisation on your paint.
Fitted as standard, with the opposite door inspected at the same time.
Door-lock sensor shorts are measured, because they flatten batteries quietly.

Questions
Almost always a failed latch actuator. It is a known weak point across most of the range, and there is an updated design that we fit in place of the original.
Call us before trying anything. There is a correct way into the door, and forced attempts damage trim and paint that costs considerably more than the repair.
If one original has failed, the other is the same age and the same design. Most owners do both in one visit rather than repeating the appointment.
Yes. A shorted door-lock sensor draws current overnight with the car locked, and it is a frequent cause of a car that goes flat while sitting.
Yes, the updated genuine design, with the part number recorded on your invoice.
More likely hinge wear or alignment. The door is set so it closes on its seal rather than on the catch, which also resolves most wind and water complaints.
Usually one business day once the part is in hand, and we will tell you the lead time when we quote.
Yes, as a matter of course, and we will tell you what we find whether or not you act on it.
