Find the leak first. Then quote the part.

McLaren Engine and Drivetrain Repair in Dallas, TX

Rear main seals, gaskets and oil leaks diagnosed with the car clean and up on the lift, so the quote matches the fault.

Oil where it should not be

Most Engine Jobs Start as an Oil Spot

Oil migrates. A leak at the top of an engine will present itself at the bottom of the car, which is why a leak diagnosed from a drip on the garage floor is a guess with a large invoice attached.

The rear main seal is the job owners most fear, partly because it is real and partly because it gets blamed for every leak in the vicinity. It is worth establishing which one you have.

Our approach is unglamorous: degrease the area, run the car, put it back on the lift and find the source. It adds an hour and it regularly removes several thousand dollars from a quote.

What brings cars in

  • Oil spots on the garage floor, or a smell of burning oil after a drive
  • Oil level dropping between services
  • A leak found during an inspection or pre-purchase report
  • Rough running, misfire codes or a check engine light
  • Noise or vibration under load that was not there before

The work

What Engine and Drivetrain Work Involves

Access is most of the labor on a mid-engined car, so the sequence is planned to do everything reachable while the car is open.

01

Leak diagnosis

The suspect area is cleaned, the car is run and driven, then re-inspected on the lift and photographed. Dye is used where the source is genuinely ambiguous. You see the origin of the leak before you approve the repair.

02

Rear main seal and gearbox-out work

Where the seal is genuinely the fault, the job is done properly with the drivetrain out, and everything that is only accessible at that moment is inspected and quoted at the same time. Doing this job twice is the expensive outcome.

03

Seals, gaskets and covers

Cam cover gaskets, oil cooler housings, sump and turbo oil feed unions, replaced with genuine parts to factory torque values and re-checked after a heat cycle.

04

Running faults

Not every engine complaint is a leak.

  • Misfires, diagnosed with live data and cylinder-level information on the factory tool.
  • Turbo and boost faults, measured against expected values rather than assumed from a code.
  • Oil consumption, assessed against what is normal for the model before anything is stripped.
  • Noises under load, captured on a road test, because they rarely reproduce in a bay.

How the job runs

Four steps, every car

01

Clean and run

Suspect area degreased, car run and driven, then re-inspected on the lift.

02

Scope and quote

Photographs of the source with a line-item estimate and access labor stated plainly.

03

The work

Genuine seals and gaskets, factory torque values, everything accessible checked while open.

04

Heat cycle and verify

Run to temperature, re-inspected, road tested and recorded against your VIN.

Leak diagnosis is usually one day. Drivetrain-out work is quoted with a completion date before it starts.

Where we work

Engine Work Across Dallas-Fort Worth

01Carrollton

Major engine work stays here from start to finish, with photographs at each stage so you can follow a job that takes the car off the road for a while.

02Second opinions

If you are holding a rear main seal quote from elsewhere, we are happy to diagnose the leak ourselves first. It is not always what it has been called.

03Austin and Houston

We arrange transport for owners outside the metroplex, and keep you updated by photograph rather than expecting you to drive up.

Why March Motorsports

Why Diagnosis Comes Before Parts

On a mid-engined car the labor dwarfs the part, so guessing wrong is not a small mistake. An hour spent establishing where the oil is actually coming from is the most valuable hour in the job.

We also plan the work so that everything reachable while the car is apart gets attended to once, not twice.

01

The source, photographed

You see where the oil comes from before you pay to stop it.

02

Access planned once

Everything reachable while the car is open is inspected and quoted together.

03

Verified after heat

Re-inspected after a full heat cycle and road test, not signed off cold.

Recently dropped a McLaren 600LT off for a PPI. Dalton and the team were super helpful. They know these cars well and identified issues I don't believe another shop would have caught.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

It is not usually an emergency, but the labor to reach it means it should be planned rather than deferred indefinitely, and combined with anything else that needs the drivetrain out.

By cleaning the area, running the car and re-inspecting on the lift, with dye where the source is ambiguous. Plenty of leaks blamed on the rear main seal turn out to originate higher up.

A degree of consumption is normal on these engines, and what counts as normal varies by model. We assess it against the specification for your car before suggesting anything is wrong.

Yes. The factory tool provides cylinder-level live data, which is how a misfire gets attributed to a coil, an injector or something mechanical instead of guessed at.

Yes, and we quote them together. Paying the access labor twice is the outcome worth avoiding.

Yes, genuine parts to factory torque values, with part numbers on your invoice.

Yes. We will diagnose the leak ourselves and tell you honestly whether we reach the same conclusion.

For a leak diagnosis, usually a day. For drivetrain-out work you get a completion date when we scope the job, before anything is touched.
